Fryderyk Józef Moszynski was the illegitimate grandson of August the Strong of Saxony-Poland, through his mother Friederike von Cosel. His military and political career saw him become General of the Polish Army in 1768, State Secretary of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1773, and Marshal of the Crown from 1793 to 1795. During the Kosciuszko Uprising in Warsaw in 1794, revolutionaries took him prisoner as a representative of the old order. Only the intervention of Ignacy Wyssogota Zakrzewski prevented him from being lynched.
