Provenance:
previously in a German aristocratic collection;
North European private collection
We are grateful for the assistance of Fred Meijer, who is of the opinion that this painting, to-date attributed to Balthasar Huys (1590–1652) is by a South German or possibly North Italian artist of the late 17th century.
We are grateful to Zoran Kwak for suggesting that the present painting was executed by an artist in the circle of the Swiss painter Samuel Hoffman (1591/92-1648). He has dated the work to the second half of the 17th century.
