Vienna 1861 – 1863, terracotta, each consisting of 4 components, overall height 280 cm, width 63 cm, depth 34 cm, mounted on a wooden frame, generally good restored condition, with damage restored and missing parts replaced, beautiful original patina, (MC)
The herms were architectural elements of the corner projections of the facade of the former Heinrichshof, built by Theophil von Hansen in 1861 – 1863. The building was commissioned by Heinrich Drasche von Wartinberg, from whose Wienerberger Terrakotta und Majolika Werken both herms came; they are found in the catalogue of samples as early as 1858. The Heinrichshof was severely damaged in WW2 and demolished in 1954. The two herms were carefully restored during the winter of 2014/15 by the Stein-Werkstatt des Instituts für Konservierung and Restaurierung der Universität für Angewandte Kunst in Wien.
