Alexander Linnemann, Frankfurt 14.7.1839–21.9.1902, architect, glass painter and artisan. After graduation from secondary school, Alexandre Linnemann spent one year studying humanities and the arts at the University of Gießen. Thereafter, he studied at the Bauakademie Berlin (now: Technische Hochschule) for three years and completed there his degree in architecture. He received his practical training and experience at the masters' studio Nicolai in Dresden. Nicolai recognized his preference for the Gothic style; he was included in the reconstruction works of the Albrechtsburg in Meißen. His circle of friends included Dresden artists, e.g., Ludwig Richter and Karl Andreae. The war of 1866 put a stop to Linnemann's work in Meißen. He went to Mainz, where he established an architectural studio together with Meckel and Rethenbacher and worked on the restoration of the Cathedral of Mainz. In 1872, he returned to Frankfurt, where he had an architectural studio together with Striegler until 1877. He executed numerous assignments. Linnemann established his own glass painting workshop in 1889. There followed further large commissions in Germany and abroad. In 1897, Alexander Linnemann was awarded the title of Professor for his artistic achievements. After his death in 1902, a memorial exhibition was held at the Frankfurt Kunstgewerbemuseum. In 1902, the window was shown at the Karlsruhe glass painting exhibition. His sons Rudolf and Otto took over his glass painting workshop in 1902.
