China, Qing dynasty, early 19th century. Carved ivory. The bearded god of luck carries a boy holding a peach against his right shoulder. Fuxing is one of the three star divinities: Fu (luck), Lu (wealth) and Shou (a long life), who were worshipped from the 15th century onwards. Their veneration forms part of Chinese popular religion. Traces of polychromy. Age damage and traces of use. Height: 30.5 cm. wooden base. (BA) ASA
