2000, for Droog Design/Kessels Kramer, Amsterdam, rotation moulded green and grey polyethylene, saw, height 127 cm, diameter 33 cm. (DRAX)
From the limited and out-of-stock edition of 100. The “Do Cut” totem forms part of the “Do Create” series.
Provenance:
Atelier Robert Stadler, Paris.
Lit.:
Alehop! Dissenys, Enginys i Remeis, Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, 2003, p. 84 - Transplantation in situ, Musée He Xiangning & A. F. A. A., 2005, p. 94.
The idea was to give consumers the opportunity to act upon objects to make them work. “Do Cut” takes the form of an abstract totem with no obvious purpose. By looking at it more closely, the user finds that he can decide which object -– a stool, a lampshade, a vase, etc. – will appear when the hollow column is cut. By destroying the object of his desire, he gives life to other objects. A saw is provided so that the deed can be done.
“Do Create” products ask the consumer to interact, add their own interpretation, and make the products come alive.
