Khotan,
East Turkestan, c. 310 x 170 cm, 18th century, early carpets from East Turkestan are among the rarest collectibles in the antique sector, this piece belongs to the group of the Khotan carpets with coffer-and-gul pattern, the coffers are distributed across the filed in alternating colours and with meandering frames, especially remarkable is the yellow-ground main border with roof-like “Argali” horn motifs, wholly complete, some repairs to the long sides, age-related low pile and cotton foundation visible through the coarse knotting.
