A rare “Clam” chair, designed by Philip Arctander, - Design

1944, manufactured in the late 1940s for Nordisk Staal & Mobel Central, Copenhagen, dark stained and polished birch, covered with Nordic lamb (replaced), dark brown leather studs, height 90 cm, width 63 cm, depth 85 cm, height of seat 40 cm. (DRAX)

This model, also referred to as ‘Muslingestolen’, rarely comes as a chair. For a while it was wrongly attributed to Martin Olsen, while it was actually designed by the Danish architect Philip Arctander in 1944 for the opening of the furniture store NY FORM A/S in Copenhagen. The company had commissioned six architects to supply designs, and Arctander was one of them.
