A set of designs for carpets and wallpaper, 44 sheets with designs by Josef Frank, Sweden,

A set of designs for carpets and wallpaper, 44 sheets with designs by Josef Frank, Sweden, - Design

c. 1945, pencil, pen and ink, gouache and material samples on paper or cardboard, partly with hand-written inscriptions, one sheet inscribed: Josef Frank, dimensions ranging from 9 x 8 cm to 30 x 62 cm.

23 sheets with designs by Björn TrägËšardh, Sweden, c. 1950, pen and ink, partly with wash, gouache and opaque white on cardboard, wrapping paper or transparent paper, one sheet featuring the pattern of sealskin, partly with hand-written inscriptions, three sheets signed: Björn Trägardh, dimensions ranging from 12 x 85 cm to 34 x 45 cm. (DRAX)

Provenance:
private ownership, Sweden

Maria Veerasamy, CEO of Svensk Tenn, examined the drawings and thinks that the attribution to Josef Frank is justified. For the other 23 sheets, which differ in style and technique, it can be assumed that they are by the hand of Björn TrägËšardh. This opinion was confirmed by Per Ahlden, curator of the Svensk Tenn Archives & Collections, in an e-mail of 14 August 2014. The Swedish artist Björn TrägËšardh (1909-1998) worked for the company as early as the 1930s and later moved to France in order to gain a foothold in the fashion industry.
