Karapinar-Hotamis kilim, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Central Anatolia (Turkey), c. 382 x 140 cm, around 1800, an unpublished slit kilim woven from two parts with contour wefts and brocading from the Turkmen Hotami tribe that is spread around Karapinar, the archaic “scorpion motifs" in lavish arrangement with blue red edges is among one of Anatolia’s oldest motifs and their meaning can no longer be interpreted today, on a consistently white background this piece is an important collector’s item, both ends complete and folded backwards, long sides trimmed, within the brown corroded parts of the pattern are several damaged areas such as open warp slits.
