A creative, large ‘butterfly’ carved by an Aboriginal artist and painted with earth colours, soot and white clay. With large wings on both sides. On the head (with eyes), the ‘butterfly’ displays a white feather as ‘antenna’ (the second feathered ‘antenna’ on the other side is broken). A very original object. Dimensions: L: 42 cm, H: 21 cm, W: 17 cm. (ME)
Provenance: Purchased by Prof. Dr. Jan Jelinek during his first ‘Czechoslovak scientific expedition’ directly from the Aborigines in Arnhem Land, Northern Australia, in 1969. Since then preserved in the family collection in Brno, Czech Republic.
