Mixed lot (3 items): New Guinea: three bone daggers from the Asmat territory - Tribal Art

1: A light-coloured dagger made of cassowary bone, the upper end carved in the shape of a hornbill. The front is richly decorated with geometric carved reliefs (volutes, rhombs, zigzag lines etc.).
2: Cassowary bone dagger with dark, reddish patina. The upper end is pierced for a decorative hanging made of strings of light grey seed capsule and cassowary feathers (the hanging is now lost), and decorated with geometrical reliefs (circle with cross, linear semicircles, rhombs, zigzag lines).
3: Cassowary bone dagger with old, black patina. Carved with two tips! Pierced at the upper end for a decorative hanging (now lost).
All 3 objects display good patina and no damage. Between the end of the 19th and the first third of the 20th century; L: 34 cm, 34 cm, 29 cm. (ME) ASA

Provenance: Collected by the consignor on the Dairam River, in the hinterland of the Asmat territory on the southern coast of New Guinea. Subgroup: Czikas. Austrian private collection.
