The refined decoration in the large central field: 16 ‘naga’ or ‘makara’ (snake bodies with dragon heads) made of silver, surrounded by eight dragon heads (‘demons’). The border features bands of floral and geometrical patterns as well as triangular tumpal motifs. About 1900 or earlier; dimensions: 104 cm x 136 cm (horizontal format). (ME)
Provenance: Austrian private collection.
Lit.: ‘Textilien in Bali’ by B. Hauser-Schäublin, M.-L. Nabholz-Kartaschoff & Urs Ramseyer, ill. 3.15.
