A very rare, old festive sarong, called ‘kre alang’, from the island of Sumbawa. The fabric foundation consists of cotton, woven and stitched in two panels in red and grey-brown stripes. An elaborate decoration with gold threads is woven into the fabric (silk, wrapped with gold). On the front side is a large, vertical field of woven gold threads, decorated with a dense, horizontal snake pattern. Rare! First third of the 20th century; dimensions: 116 cm x 90 cm (double, since sewn together as a sarong). (ME)
