1: A kris dagger from Sumatra, probably of the Minangkabau, with an old, seven-fold corrugated Naga blade in pamor technique. The beautiful, very old ivory hilt is shaped in the guise of a ‘bird of the gods’, Garuda (see cat. no. 215). The hilt ring (‘mendak’) is decorated with silver wire. The sheath is made of wood. L: 45 cm.
2: A small, old kris dagger, probably from Bali, with straight pamor blade. The wooden hilt and the ‘boat’ of the sheath (wranka) are carved with floral motifs and volutes. The ring between the blade and hilt (mendak) is made of black horn. The sheath, too, is made of wood and horn, and features an incised decoration of geometric bands on the front side. L: 36 cm. Both objects show very old and worn usage patina and only minor age-related damage. Both items: 19th century. (ME) ASA
