Mixed lot (3 items): Democratic Republic of Congo: Tribes: Topoke (2), Tetela: Three ceremonial and prestige knifes from eastern Congo.
1: A large dagger knife of the Topoke. The double-edged iron blade is engraved on both sides and the middle with fine, linear patterns. The short, concave wooden hilt is wrapped in a spiral with a band made of brass. At the end of the handle sits a heavy, thick ‘counterweight’ made of iron. L: 48 cm.
2: A second, similar dagger knife of the Topoke. Likewise with fine engraving on the blade. The hilt is wrapped with copper. With iron ‘counterweight’. L: 42 cm.
3: A smaller dagger knife of the Tetela. With a typical shape of the iron blade. The blade is decorated on both sides with three forged lines each. The wooden hilt and the long spike on the end are cloaked in their entirety in copper sheet and partly punched with dotted decorations. L: 39 cm.
All three objects are old and in very good condition. A minor loss on the hilt of the smaller Topoke knife. First third of the 20th century. (ME)
