A pretty head of a ‘hobby horse’, called ‘koredugaso’, belonging to the jesters of the Kore association. During initiation feasts of the Kore association, jesters ‘ride’ such ‘hobby horses’ in order to poke pun at the proud rider warriors and other authorities and dignitaries of the Bambara. Carved in hard, brown wood and decorated with fine, geometric lines. The eyes are accentuated in red and the long ears are pierced for decorative tassel pendants. An object with good, old shiny patina, in excellent condition, minor age damage (small loss to the left ear). First half of the 20th century; L: 40 cm. (ME)
