Private collection, Vienna
Adam Silo was a pupil of Abraham Storck and a talented marine painter, but also a constructor of optical instruments, master shipbuilder and seafarer. In 1728 he published a book about shipbuilding. Tsar Peter the Great studied shipbuilding with Silo during his visit to Holland and purchased many of his paintings (today in the Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg).
