Excerpt from the letter of authenticity issued by Hans-Gerd Röder:
the painter and sculptor Sascha Schneider spent the first 11 years of his childhood in Russia and this would exert a huge influence on his life. He became known after exhibiting his first works in 1894, receiving numerous important commissions to paint murals. In 1904/05 he designed Symbolist title illustrations for Karl May’s books at the author’s request. In 1908 he designed murals for the foyer of the National Theatre in Weimar and for the new buildings at Jena University. 1917 marked new murals for the staircase of the extension to the Albertinum in Dresden. After a period as a professor at the Weimar Saxon-Grand Ducal Art School from 1904-08, he left to live in Florence until 1914. It was during this time that he turned to sculpting. He returned to Dresden after the start of World War I, working from a studio in the Künstlerhaus in Loschwitz
