Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain, Paris 11.10.1710-1795, French sculptor, son of Gabriel Allegrain, was taught by his father, becoming an ornamental sculptor, from 1748 at the Royal Academy for Painting and Sculpture, 1759 professor, 1783 director, numerous well-known sculptures. A statue of a bather in marble is today held by the Louvre, exhibited at the Salon in 1767, previously at the Palace of Louveciennes, having belonged to Madame du Barry.
