Franz Anton Bustelli was not the first modelling master at the Bavarian Porcelain Manufactory. The Viennese artist, Johann Ponhauser, modeller and enamel painter began his career as a former on 25 February 1754 in Nymphenburg-Neudeck, becoming the modelling master in May 1754, he left the Manufactory, however, in May 1755, having worked for seven months with Bustelli. Presumably Bustelli’s excellent artistic qualities made his collaboration redundant. The Garden Dessert in the form of a miniature Rococo pleasure garden, was designed in part by Ponhauser and brought together. It was one of the most important commissions for the Munich court, made on the occasion of the proxy marriage of the Bavarian Princess Maria Anna Josepha Augusta, the sister of Prince Elector Max Joseph, to Margrave Ludwig Georg of Baden on 10 July 1755. It is for this reason that both artists’ styles are evident in the early figures produced by the Manufactory.
