glass, colourless, sides with recessed lip, rich cut décor and two medallions; front with "Die Hoffnung besrer Zeiten, wenn kommt sie", depicted by allegorical figure of hope with anchor and palm of peace in her hands, seated on a snail; reverse with "Sie fragt nach guten Leuthen, wo sind sie", depicted by allegory of chastity, justice and faith, behind them obelisk with sign "Züchtig, Gerecht, Gottselig", height 25.5 cm, base with minor chips, Bohemia, 1907 (Ru)

Mayr, Veredelte Gläser aus Renaissance und Barock, Sammlung Ernesto Wolf, Europäische Glaskunst 1500-1800, Cologne 1989-1990, ill. 108, two goblets with allegories of religious freedom, Silesia 1720-1725; Olga Drahotova discovered that the depictions are based on the front and back of a memorial coin designed by Kaspar Neumann which was produced after the Alt-Ranstädt treaty of 1707. K. Domanig, Die deutsche Medaille, Vienna 1907. This treaty returned religious freedom of the Evangelic-Lutheran church to the Augsburg confession Silesian dukes, the duchies of Brieg, Liegnitz, Münsterberg and Öls as well as the city of Wrezlaw. This occurred as a result of an intervention by Swedish King Charles XII and was ratified by Emperor Joseph I in 1709.
