Kazak, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Southwest Caucasus, c. 220 x 117 cm, mid-19th century, unusual village rug that leaves out the often stereotypical symmetry in a most pleasant fashion, two coffered and hooked, shield-like, different central fields, both the massive, light-coloured main border with Kurdish-like pattern designs and the elem knotted only on one end are proofs of the creativity of the female weaver, who manufactured the present carpet without following a model purely at her own discretion, excellent condition with original ends and side edges.
