East Turkestan, c. 355 x 193 cm, beginning of the 19th century, asymmetrical knots, with natural colour cotton warp, blue dyed cotton wefts; pattern of pomegranates growing out of a vase and developing in two directions as far as the middle, in endless repeat on dark blue background and surrounded by a fretwork border, manufactured in classical Kelley format, as a fertility symbol the pomegranate is known as one of the oldest surface decorations (it is worth noting that the border frame of carpets belonging to the pomegranate group is mostly decorated with patterns of rosettes and rarely with a swastika lattice, but a comparable piece has been published by Herrmann), pile with visible signs of wear and three large repairs, a conspicuous crease at the upper end, original kilim preserved at both ends.
