Qashqai, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Southwest Persia (Iran), c. 205 x 158 cm, end of the 19th century, very luxurious, signed pictorial carpet with the well-known subject of Nadir Shah Afshar seated on his throne and surrounded by his entourage, manufactured by the Kashkuli tribes in fine knotting with velvety thick pile and cloth-like feel, the weft threads are initially made of red wool and gradually replaced by cotton, after c. 35 cm until the end only violet silk is used, slight signs of wear, woven finish no longer preserved, corners partly replaced, now secured with linen band on both long sides.
