Tsukdruk silk,
Tibet, c. 104 x 83 cm, beginning of the 20th century, tsukdruk carpets represent one of the earliest forms of pile weaving according to a technique that is similar to the loop & cut system, the present rare and extremely fine specimen in silk is woven in three connected narrow stripes and executed on a back-strap loom, these weaves were often meant to serve as blankets, the use of yellow silk indicates that this item was a ritual object destined for a high-ranking Tibetan lama, in superb condition!
