August Bournonville 1803-1879, - Glass and porcelain

biscuit porcelain bust with base, Height: 30,5 cm, Bing & Grondahl, Copenhagen, black mark 1979, commemorating the 100th anniversary of his death, limited edition of 250 copies (Ru)

August Bournonville, (Copenhagen 21.8.1805-30.11.1879), Danish dancer, choreographer, and ballet master; son of the French ballet master Antoine Bourneville, enrolled at the Royal Danish School of Ballet at the age of 7, becoming a dancer at the age of 15, as well as performing as a singer and actor. At the age of 21, he decided to pursue his career in the ballet; 1826 studies under Auguste Vestris and Pierre Gardel in Paris, returning to Copenhagen as a solo performer, choreographer, and ballet director, creating 50 ballets; major works include: "La Sylphide 1836, Napoli, 1842, Die Kirmes in Brügge, 1851, Eine Volkssage, 1854." A good friend of the poet Hans Christian Andersen, he married Helena Frederika Hakansson in 1830, with whom he had seven children.
