A Venus figural group, - Glass and porcelain

sculpted in the round, at the centre, the goddess surrounded by 3 companions, the one on the left with 2 doves and rose garland, the one on the right reaching into an open casket with roses and leaves, between them Cupid tying the sandals of Venus, the reverse side with Cupid holding roses in a bowl, a companion lacing roses into Venus’ hair, the base with rose garlands, a frieze with crossed bands and rosettes, biscuit porcelain, Height: 38 cm, France, model by Boizot, apocryphal blue Vienna mark, Late 19th Cent., impressed no. 687 (Ru)

Louis Simon Boizot, (Paris 9.10.1743-10.3.1809), sculptor, son of Antoine, architect, draughtsman, and engraver, student of Michelange Slodtz; at the age of 16, enrolled at the “Academie Royale de peinture et de sculpture”. In 1762, Boizot won the coveted Prix-de-Rome for sculpture, 1765-1770 at the French Academy in Rome; 1773-1800 Boizot headed the sculpture studio at the National Manufactory in Sévres, until 1809 master modeller.
