Sino-Tibetan, probably 18th/19th century.
Gilt bronze. Vaishravana, also known as Jambhala or Kubera, is regarded as the Guardian of the North and the God of Wealth. Here he is portrayed adorned with the jewellery of a bodhisattva, in ardhaparyanka on a lotus throne, in his left hand the jewel-spitting mongoose. His right foot rests on a shell (= blessing) placed on a water jug (= fertility). Plinth sealed. Scarf loop broken off H: 8.4 cm. (BA)
