lapis lazuli, gold, diamonds, sapphires, oval, front with applied relief image of St George as dragon slayer, on the back floral perforated hinged lid, top in form of a crown with pendant,5 x 3 cm, also: pair of golden cufflinks, enamelled in blue and 2 letters with certificate of origin as well as 2 postcards ca. 1870, (Lu)
Superb work. The pendant was worn by the king himself and after his death was given by his mother Queen Marie to Prince Alfons of Bavaria in 1887 in his memory. A handwritten confirmation by Prince Joseph Clemens of Bavaria from 1953 is provided. In this confirmation there id reference to the cufflinks as a gift of Queen Isabella II. of Spain. Prince Joseph Clemens gave the pendant and cufflinks to the prince’s pedagogue Professor August Poellinger. Very significant personal souvenir of King Ludwig II of Bavaria.
