Catharina Ykens was a daughter of the historical painter and sculptor Jan Ykens. After her initial training with her father, she became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp in 1687/88. She painted garlands of flowers and fruits under the influence of works by her uncle, Frans Ykens, and Daniel Seghers. Comparable works by the same artist are preserved at the Prado, Madrid, the Alte Pinakothek, Munich, and the Musées Royaux des Beaux Arts in Brussels.
