The present paintings are characteristic examples of South German panel painting from the late 15th century. Underdrawings visible in infrared reflectograms reveal certain compositional modifications. The figure of Saint Catherine appears to have been conceived differently as underneath the figure of the donor appear the drawn outlines of the saint’s hand holding the wheel (see ill.). This suggests that the figure of the donor was not conceived in the original plan or should have been positioned differently.
