Lit.: Rudolf von Strasser, Die Einschreibebüchlein des Wiener Glas- und Porzellanmalers Anton Kothgassers 1769–1851, 1977, p. 90 ff, this publication lists several glasses with flies. Flies were part of the decorative repertoire in the transparent painting of Johann Schapers, 1621–1760, as well as Samuel Mohn around 1812 and his son Gottlob Samuel Mohn around 1815. This depiction's symbolism alludes to the carefree life of the bachelor, the fly.
