Museum quality Viennese Empire table,
Workshop of Josef Danhauser (Vienna 1780–1829) circa 1810/15. Made in mahogany, the lower part of the top with crossbanded veneering in cherry, set on a three-sided base with verde antico mouldings and gold painted parnassus grass ornament, set over columns supported by gold-painted sphinxes with the so called “vergoldeten Holzbronzen” (gilt wooden bronzes) (shaped moulded wood form similar to papier mache on a cellulose base) typical of Danhauser, the top painted and decorated with boxwood intarsia. H: 80 cm, D: 110 cm. In good restored condition with replacements. (PZ)
