China: Large acupuncture doll, - Tribal Art

A large acupuncture doll, female, smooth round plinth made of a piece of carved wood, the body overlaid with white paper and painted white. Hairstyle and plinth originally dyed black (or grey), the diadem yellowish. On the white skin of the entire figure, all important points for the placement of the acupuncture needle are drilled deeply and identified by hand in black Chinese characters. An almost life-sized, highly original study and practice object from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Minor age damage (scuffed on the hair and some minor exfoliation on the top white layer of paint). 19th century/20th century; H: 146 cm (figure alone), 166 cm (with plinth). (ME)
