A rare, complete necklace formerly belonging to an aristocrat (or a king) of the Ashanti people. Entirely made of silver. The chain consists of conjoined rings of silver wire. In the front hangs a large pectoral pendant in the form of a (European) padlock, made of silver, executed with ‘waste mould’ casting. With five funnel-shaped silver pendants. First half of the 20th century; L: c. 60 cm (entire chain). (ME)
