A round ornamental pendant that was part of a long necklace belonging to a dignitary. A very finely executed piece, with a crocodile lying at its centre, surrounded by filigree spirals, lines, circles and semicircles. Terminating in a framed zigzag border. The back with 2 eyelets on opposite sides for threading onto a necklace. The item was executed in a single piece with ‘waste mould’ casting. A minor casting defect to the left edge. First half of the 20th century; DM: c. 8 cm. Gold content: c. 585. (ME)
