Mask of the Dogon ‘black monkey’ type. Made of heavy, hard wood, originally dyed black on the front side, both cavities around the rectangular eyes, the mouth and inside the ears dyed red with redwood powder. An impressive old piece, with good usage patina and minor age damage (tears). First half of the 20th century; H: 41 cm. (ME)
