Bursa (Turkey), c. 168 x 57 cm, early 18th/19th century, embroideries, cloths and textiles played and important role in Turkish life, especially at court, the present piece is the panel of a velvet with cotton weft and integrated silk warp thread system, in which the partially formed loops were cut open after the manufacturing process, resulting in the textile’s characteristic fibre pile (velvet), historic pattern with dotted big cat pairs tied into the floral pattern at the neck and isolated dogs sitting in front of each other, all edges and ends complete and folded on the back, age-related signs of wear with exposed weft threads.
