Northwest Anatolia (Turkey), c. 207 (225) x 157 cm, c. 1850, early village rug from the region around Bergama, Caucasian type with large coffer patterns - the Turks call this pattern “cicek-halisi”,

Literally “flower carpet”, a very similar specimen was published and described in detail by Martin Volkmann, age-related low pile with some tie-ins, the corroded brown pattern borders are entirely reworked and only visible on the back, large kilim ends preserved on both sides. (MA)
