Pieter Andreas Rysbraeck - a pair (2) - Old Master Paintings

(Paris 1684–1748 London)

oil on canvas, 67.5 x 92.5 and 68 x 92 cm respectively, framed
a pair (2)

We are grateful to Mr Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for confirming the authenticity of the present painting. He thus wrote to the previous owner: “The pair are indeed very nice examples of Pieter Rijsbrack’s work...”. Pieter Rysbraeck was the son of a painter and brother of three artists. In 1710/11 he became master of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp. Together with his brother Michael, a sculptor, he moved to London in 1720. They were later joined by their brother Gerard, a still life painter. Pieter Rysbraeck specialized in still lifes and hunting paintings, but also produced topographically precise landscapes and views of English estates. His most important patron was the Earl of Burlington, for whom he painted views of the gardens of Chiswick House.
