We are grateful to Dr Jan de Maere, Brussels, for comfirming the authenticity of the present painting (correspondence of 20 February 2013). Johann Georg de Hamilton was famous above all for his hunting scenes. He was an imperial court painter in Vienna, but also received commissions from the Princes Liechtenstein and Schwarzenberg. In 1709 he became a member of the Viennese Academy. From 1710 onwards he worked exclusively for Prince Adam Franz zu Schwarzenberg.
