Her father, Johann Gottlieb Süsskind, was a successful banker in Augsburg, regarded as the richest man in Swabia at that time. By marrying his children within influential noble circles he achieved even greater standing for his family. Thus Elise was married to the Augsburg banker Wilhelm, Baron von Schaezler in 1829.
