Initially, Dieter Rams and Wolfgang Feierbach were business partners. The series designed by Dieter Rams was only produced by Wolfgang Feierbach, a pioneer in the field of fibreglass production, until 1965, on behalf of Vitsoe. Eventually, Vitsoe ended the collaboration due to financial cutbacks. After Wolfgang Feierbach had taken the complete furniture production over under his own auspices, Dieter Rams and Wolfgang Feiberach started a lawsuit. Unlike Vitsoe, Feierbach produced the shell as a single-piece cast, as the individual parts tended to buckle. When Vitsoe also filed a lawsuit, Wolfgang Feierbach ceased production in the early 1970s.
