Georg Fuchs, born in Vienna, was a pupil of Jacopo Amigoni in Venice. A prize-winning student of the Academy, he lived in Copenhagen from 1755 on. In 1768 he is mentioned as a drawing teacher at a school for cadets. Fuchs was first and foremost active as a portraitist.
