Abraham Begeyn was and landscape and animal painter with Italianate tendencies. He took the lead in his painting from J. Asselijn, N. Berchem and A. Pynacker. Typical of his works are large-leaf plants, such as thistle stands and often a goat depicted alone. In his later years, Begeyn lived in Berlin as court painter to the Princes Elector of Brandenburg.
