A Kothgasser Ranft beaker, - Works of Art

glass, colourless, protruding sides with gold edges, fine én grisaille painted knight standing on plinth, above that canopy, between that colour-painted Gothic-style windows, under which the motto 'Macte, Virtute, Austriacus' in opaque paintwork, golden base of body with cog-wheeled ranft, silver-yellow stained base with sixteen-pointed star to base, height 12 cm, lip with minor chip, Anton Kothgasser, Vienna, around 1820 (Ru)

The Franzensburg in Laxenburg is a knights' castle in a park, surrounded by a castle lake. Gottlob Mohn worked on the Franzensburg windows since 1813, as did his talented colleagues August Viertel and Anton Kothgasser. The castle was named for Emperor Franz I. This beaker shows an interior view of a window wall with the knights of the great hall.
