We are grateful to Thomas Deecke, Berlin, for confirming the authenticity of this work, which is one of the earliest preparatory sketches for a print by Lovis Corinth of sheet VIII; "Marie Antoinette on her way to the Scaffold" (the image reversed). Provenance: Galerie Welz, Salzburg; Private Collection, Austria Published in the exhibition catalogue of Galerie Welz, Salzburg, April 1990, no. 43 with illustration.
