(Rome 1858–1933 Cesena)
Two friends in blue dresses (according to family tradition, Amélie Florence Soulacroix 1898–1990, the artist’s daughter), signed, inscribed F. Soulacroix Florence,
oil on canvas, 72 x 35 cm, framed, (Rei)
Provenance:
European Private Collection.
Frédéric Soulacroix was a French painter who spent most of his life in Italy. Just like his father, the painter Charles Soulacroix (1825-1899), Frédéric specialised in 18th century genre painting and often depicted lavishly dressed subjects in scenes of gallantry or flirtation (see lot 1244). Soulacroix was particularly skilled in the representation of fabric, as we can see in the present work. The girls wear beautiful, embellished dresses and stand in front of large silk curtains that are painted with such talent that they almost look real.
