Klára Horáčková, “Spirit Levels”, galerie Makráč, ÚMCH (Ústav makromolekulární chemie), Prague, 2016
Klára Horáčková studied at the Glassmaking Secondary School in Kamenický Šenov and later at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under the tutelage of prof. Kopecký. She is currently an assistant in the Glass Studio at the AAAD in Prague. She recently garnered attention with her mirrored objects at the Špičky exhibit in GASK in Kutná Hora. Next to this monumental work, she designs vases that straddle the boundary between works of art and design. The author experiments with unusual types of glass. She has come to favor black opaque glass and panel (float) glass.
The vase on offer is from the MET series. The author used float glass that she fused in a kiln after shaping it. The finished work captures the original shape of the glass panels as well as the resulting shape of a cylindrical vase.
